Cranky, dusty, and smelly, we packed up and headed out for an early coffee date with moto legend Reg Kittrelle, who, along with his wife Lora, would be our next host.

We arrived early for our meeting at Power Plant Coffee Shop in Moss Landing on Route 1. After our days of quiet Blue Roads riding, Route 1—called the Cabrillo Highway in this part of California—with its speeding four-lane traffic, was a slap in the face. But we are nothing if not flexible. With my heart in my throat, I held my breath and throttled up into the fray. The speed and congestion of the traffic terrified me, but I was excited—and a little nervous—to meet Reg. We took our coffee to a table outside near our bikes and waited, watching the traffic.
